Philip Sills was born in Brooklyn and began to study the guitar with Ronnie Walters at the age of 10. After receiving his degree in Philosophy from Tufts University, he moved to Spain and worked for several years as guitarist in residence at the “Centro de la Guitarra Espanola” in Palma de Mallorca. His association with “El Centro” brought him into close contact with many of the world's best players. In Mallorca he studied with Gabriel Estarellas, and was able to take advantage of instruction from guitarists such as Paul Gregory, Juan Antonio Torres, David Russell, Victor Pelligrini, Yves Storms and others. He also attended the Institut Oscar Espla, in Alicante where he was selected player at Jose Tomas’ master classes. In 2001 Mr. Sills was awarded a French Culture Ministry Classical Guitar Teaching Diploma. He now lives on the French Indian Ocean Island of Reunion where he divides his time between teaching and composing. Several of his compositions were recorded by David Russell and may be seen on YouTube.
