The pace is a leisurely adagio and the piece opens with a much more reflective mood than the bare notes suggest, with pleasing chords with that little bit of poignancy that makes the melody more compelling. A key change and pizzicato a lead to a new section that changes key again to the minor, where the threeagainst-two over big, big chords provides a lovely accompaniment to a singing melody. The density of notes on the page increases as the composer develops this lovely piece and the delicate close harmony of the upper parts, almost gives a shimmering gloss to the melody beneath. Not at all as intense as the notation suggests. So if you buy this piece, and l do recommend you do, take time to study the notation and you'll find that the gentle pace and wonderful chords are not as hard to realise as you might have thought.
