Les 100 de Roland Dyens - O trio magico

This trio comes in the form of a saudade, which is a Brazilian term to describe homesickness, or longing and is often in triple time, as it is here. Dedicated to Pixinguinha, and utilising many elements of his musical style, this hauntingly sad little piece is simple in its directly emotional content. The piece is written in G minor with all three players having a 6th string to D. The 1st part is perhaps the hardest, as this player is often required to move around the high positions a little and generally work a tiny bit harder than the other two parts. However nothing is too difficult and any relatively decent trio should find this piece both rewarding and fun to play, as there are no musical histrionics, just a beautiful tune, harmonised as authentically Brazilian as you could imagine, with a charming and moving result. I can see this piece making an awful lot of friends.
