This man's music is unfailingly well written; effortlessly melodic and yet remains fresh when playing it; a fact that others might do well to emulate, for many is the time that a melodic, easy on the ear piece ends up being boring. Not so here. Named after the capital city from the 'Wizard of Oz' (Guess the connection, here?), this vibrant waltz falls beautifully under the fingers and yet has the ease and imagination of some of the Barrios waltzes. To give it the proper due, I assume it has to be fairly fast, although unusually there is no speed marking at all; not that this is a problem in itself as I presume it means that it works at a number of speeds, whoever plays it. Or alternatively, it should be obvious how fast it should go, which I take to be faster rather than slower. This is a lovely work full of great ideas and flashy sections that will make the player sound a little better a player, than he really is. Altogether this deserves to do well. Chris Dumigan
