I have seen many versions of the 12 Granados' Spanish Dances in odd ones and twos but never come across the whole 12 in one book, and what a large book it is. If the entire set as a whole is new to you, or even if you only know say Nos 5, and 10, the pieces as a set are a revelation. They are so varied in style and character from the wonderful Minuetto No1, to the Valenciana No7, perhaps one of the most really Spanish sounding of the set, to the jaw-dropping and gorgeous No2, the Oriental; the recording of which by Ida Presti and Alexander Lagoya remains forever in my top five best guitar recordings of all time list. Zohn has done a fine job with all of these classic works. They are truly guitartstic and whilst they are certainly not easy by any stretch, they are magnificent arrangements that any interested parties should take up, and I urge any players who love this music to give this extremely generously sized volume a chance.
