José Mora-Jiménez was born in San José, Costa Rica. In 2005, he graduated with two bachelor degrees from the University of Costa Rica, in Classical Guitar and Music Composition.
Since January 2006, José has resided in the Netherlands. He completed his composition studies at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague; concurrently, he pursued a master’s degree in Cultural Economics and Cultural Entrepreneurship at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where he graduated, Cum Laude, in 2010.
His music has received several awards; among them: the Calefax Reed Quintet Composition Competition Prize (2011), the 50th year anniversary composition competition prize of the association “Vrienden van het lied” in the Netherlands (2011), Second Prize in the Boston Guitarfest Composition Competition (2009) and Third prize at the Nilufer International Classical Guitar Competition in Turkey (2015)
He is currently active as a composer of modern concert music as well as music for various forms of media, such as videogames and short films.
