This folio of fifteen brief pieces is designed to explore the treble strings in first and fifth positions. The intended positions are indicated, but they are not entirely strict. (Some open B naturals are allowed in the fifth-position passages.) There are no other left-hand fingerings, and this helps to promote improved reading skills. There are no stopped notes on the fifth or sixth string, and the light, open textures allow free movement of the simple melodies. Many of the musical ideas seem to have been generated from technical concerns, but this could be very useful material for students just beginning to venture away from the security blanket of first position.
