This is a very clever piece. There's not a typical Spanish chord sequence in sight and yet it sounds inherently Spanish in essence. It is the form of a slow barcarolle which manages however to straddle 12/8 and 15/8 as well as having a middle theme in 3/4 and sound perfectly natural. It begins with a curious rocking type of theme where five notes are arpeggiated together in a form of introductory motif before it all widens out to become the main theme, which consists of two voices throughout. The piece is not difficult at all to bring off successfully, and remains firmly in the first five frets throughout. The music has an evocative, haunting quality that makes it a lovely piece to play. Yet again in this fine series, Dyens has managed to write completely different sounding pieces that are a joy to play and yet still retain his basic premise of not being too difficult. Wonderful.
