This 'beautiful poppy' is another of the '100', and really takes the form of a quasi-study, in spite of its very melodic harmonies and theme, which is an old French nursery rhyme. It opens with the tune as a solo line with the first part quite slow, and a faster final line. Then the whole melody repeats with a quasi-imitative lower line, with the occasional 3rd note to balance out the harmonies. The third and final time through the tune puts the melody in the bass with syncopated chords above, leading to a final restatement of the final line once more as a coda.
This is a beautiful, simple, magical little piece that receives a wonderful arrangement from Dyens. It is only, as with all his other pieces in this big set, of moderate difficulty and would be a great piece for the modest player to practise his melodic gifts on.
