Based on an improvisation Fletcher produced to accompany an exhibition of paintings by the Argentinean painter, Fabian Perez. The Lady in the Red Dress, was later worked on to become the present composition. This is a really charming piece, immediately attractive; it would be equally at home in a group of Argentinean pieces or maybe as an encore. The lightness of touch in the rhythmic writing in really beautifully done and the harmonic language, which is quite traditionally tonal, still manages to sound fresh. The composer has a delightful way of implying both rhythmic and harmonic resolutions. which gives an added quality to this piece. All this takes the music forward, supporting the melodic line effortlessly. This is indeed something to seek out and enjoy. I certainly did. John Arran
