K. Alan Shikoh began his musical journey in 1999 as a student in the first classical guitar classes offered at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee under the direction of Charles Evans. Three years later he was selected as a performer on the NPR radio show From The Top - “the preeminent showcase for America’s best young musicians”. He continued his studies with Mario Abril at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he was a winner of the Authors and Artists Club scholarship as well as the school’s concerto competition. Holding a Master of Arts degree in guitar performance from Middle Tennessee State University, his other principle teachers include William Yelverton and Stephen Robinson. Additionally, he has performed in the masterclasses of several acclaimed artists including Roland Dyens, Eliot Fisk, and Oscar Ghiglia.
As well as an adept performer, Shikoh is an accomplished arranger winning 1st Prize in the Roland Dyens International Arranging Competition for Solo Guitar. Outside of his classical guitar background he has also served as a session player on electric and acoustic guitars for a wide range of diverse musical projects including appearances on several studio albums as well as live touring in the United States, Canada, Italy, and The Caribbean.
As a teacher Alan has served on the adjunct faculty at Lee University, Southern Adventist University, and Covenant College.
