Description
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1959, Luis Ochoa studied guitar with Rafael Oliveros, Efraín Silva, Leopoldo Igarza, Alirio Diaz and Leo Brouwer. He graduated as "Profesor Ejecutante de Guitarra" with Rómulo Lazarde at the Lino Gallardo School of Music, obtaining his diploma with honors. From 1989 until 1991, he pursued advanced studies with Walter Würdinger at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien, Austria. He has studied harmony and composition with Martín Vielma, Violeta Lárez, Francisco Rodrigo and Juan Carlos Núñez. He has received various prizes and acknowledgments for his compositions, including I Concurso Latinoamericano de Composición Agustín Barrios Mangoré in Paraguay, 1994 and the Premio Municipal de Música de Caracas in Venezuela, 1997. His production as a composer includes works and arrangements for solo guitar, guitar ensembles, choir, piano, voice and piano, chamber music and works for orchestra. He is at present Resident Composer of the Cátedra Latinoamericana de Composición Antonio Estévez (Caracas). Luis Ochoa concertizes in several countries in Europe and America and he is guitar professor at the Conservatorio de Música de Aragua, Maracay, Venezuela.
