Katia Makdissi-Warren first studies in composition were at the Quebec Conservatory and then at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg, Germany. To realize her desire to combine Arabic and Occidental musical forms, she studied Arabic music in depth at the Conservatoire National de Beyrouth and at the Kaslik University in Lebanon under the supervision of P. Louis Hage. Parallel to those studies, she participated in courses led by Franco Donatoni, Ennio Morricone and Manfred Stahnke. Regularly performed on CBC, her works are played by various artists including the Quebec Symphony and the National Oriental Orchestra of Lebanon. She received several grants from the Quebec Arts Council and the Canadian Arts Council. She is also composer-director for several theater companies. Since 2000 she is particularly active with the groupe Zeugma, an ensemble specializing in the combination of Middle-eastern and Western music. Katia Makdissi-Warren Website
