KOSOVINC Timotej

Composer, guitarist and arranger Timotej Kosovinc (born 1991 in Ljubljana, Slovenia) has experienced different musical genres and styles and composes for various musical instruments and groups. At the age of ten, he wrote his first original composition and at the age of twelve, he performed his first solo guitar recital.

He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he completed his master’s degrees in guitar (with the professor Alvaro Pierri), composition and music theory (with the professors Johannes Kretz and Detlev Müller-Siemens) and music pedagogy. For his exceptional academic achievements he was awarded the honor award of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Austria in 2019. He is currently doing a PhD in musical analysis with the doctoral advisor professor Dr. Margareta Saary at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

As a composer, guitarist and lecturer he is a regular guest in prominent concert halls such as Musikverein (Vienna, Austria), Slovenska filharmonija (Ljubljana, Slovenija) or Cankarjev Dom (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and in various festivals and summer schools such as Wien Modern, Intonation Ungarn, Forum Gitarre Wien, Liechtensteiner Gitarrentage, Sonus – Kammermusikwerkstatt or International Guitar Festival Postojna. His music is performed regularly by him and others in various tours in Europe and Canada. He is also a member of the organization Live Music Now, which was founded by Yehudi Menuhin and the goal of which is to bring live music to all people.

He is a winner of many international guitar and composition competitions. Among others, he has won the European guitar competition Enrico Mercatali (Italy), the Guitar Art Summer Fest international competition (Montenegro) and the Temsig national competition (Slovenia).

As a soloist he performed with various orchestras such as Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra or Philharmonie Marchfeld. 

He is currently teaching guitar, composition and chamber music at the J. G. Albrechtsberger Music School in Klosterneuburg (Austria).
