Mark Delpriora has enjoyed a tripartite career as a composer, performer and educator.
As a composer his works have been performed all over the world and have been published by Editions Orphée, Bèrben Edizioni Musicali and Mel Bay. He has been commissioned by Stanley Yates, Cristiano Porqueddu, Duo Ahlert & Schwab, Duo Scarlatti, Hibernian Guitar Duo, Damien Lancelle, Sergio Sorrentino and Paulo Martelli and has dedicated major works to Angelo Gilardino and Carlos Barbosa-Lima. Delpriora’s work Variations on a Theme by Sor was chosen as the set piece for the 2011 Guitar Foundation of America Competition.
As a performer, Delpriora’s New York Debut was praised by the New York Times:
“The first notes of Mark Delpriora’s guitar recital established him as a musician of authority. In a little Mozart transcription by Julian Bream he showed a rare feeling for the specific gravity of a Mozartean phrase, for the inevitability of its rise and fall. Delpriora is a guitarist to be reckoned with.”
He has recorded for Philips and Koch International Classic and has recorded more than a half-dozen CDs with flutist Laurel Zucker on Cantilena Records, including the current Sonata “Aubade”. Delpriora’s travels have taken him throughout the United States and Canada, as well Italy, Brazil, Uruguay and Greece.
Delpriora has served as faculty member and chair of the guitar department at the Manhattan School of Music and as teacher of guitar studies in the undergraduate department of the Juilliard School. In addition, he has taught masterclasses at the Eastman School of Music, Chapman University Conservatory of Music, the Nakas Conservatory in Athens, Greece and at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
