Salvatore Della Vecchia was Born in Naples in 1986, where he has studied at the National Music Conservatoire “San Pietro a Majella”, the mandolin with Fabio Menditto, singing with Maria Pia Ferrara and composition with Gaetano Panariello.
In his early career, Salvatore has won several music prices such as: 1st price at the Concorso Nazionale di Musica Capitanata (2002); 2nd price at the Concorso internazionale per mandolino solo Raffaele Calace (2006); The “Premio nazionale delle arti” as best Italian mandolin graduation of the year 2010; 1st price at the 22th Concorso Internazionale Città di Barletta”(2012), National music competition “Antida da Caserta” (2013), “17th Concorso Nazionale Flegreo” (2013), Concorso Nazionale Napolinova (2013), Concorso internazionale di musica “L. Mugnone” (2013). In 2007 Salvatore performed in several concerts during the “Giornate Mandolinistiche mondiali” as solo mandolin as well as accompanied by international orchestras, for example the Symphonic Orchestra of Xian (China).
From 2007 to 2013, Salvatore plays with the Neapolis Ensemble in prestigious theaters around the world (France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Estonia, Russia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay), and they record three albums. He has also performed with several plucked instrument ensembles of chamber music as lead mandolin such as the l’Usignolo and the Quartetto Partenopeo. Since 2013 he is currently the first mandolin of the MelisMandolin Quartet, they have recently performed at the “44th Festival Internacional de Plectro de La Rioja” in Spain and at the Festival Internacional Mandolines de Lunel in France where the press has chosen Salvatore’s portrait as image of the 11th festival edition. Salvatore has always been interested in various musical genres that have influenced his musical composition at various stages.
Moreover, Salvatore’s passion for Cinema art has brought him to work for projects concerning soundtrack for silent movies such as: “Le Voyage dans la lune” – Georges Melies (1902) for the 26th edition of FUTUROREMOTO, and “Baloo” – Victorin Jasset (1913) for the 3rd edition of Cinema Fantastico”.
He is currently playing in duo with the pianist Maria di Franco. They undergo experiments of different composition techniques with the aim to show the infinitive timbre aspects of the plucked plectrum instruments.
Since 2015 he is member of the “Orchestra Italiana” captained by Renzo Arbore.
