Outstanding as composer, performer and conductor, Alexander Brott is the complete musician and has expressed this in a dynamic career that has enriched the musical experience in Montreal for over 60 years. As founder/conductor of the McGill Chamber Orchestra, concertmaster and assistant conductor of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Professor at McGill University's Faculty of Music, Alexander Brott has brought distinction to the city's musical institutions and pleasure to thousands in Canada and abroad. His over a hundred compositions have been played all over the world by such outstanding conductors as Leopold Stokowsky, Otto Klemperer, Pierre Monteux, Sir Thomas Beecham and Charles Dutoit and he was awarded two Olympic medals for composition: in Helsinki and London. He has received numerous awards and tributes, among them the Canadian Music Council medal for his contribution to music in Canada, and the Queeen Elisabeth Silver Jubilee Medal. He was named Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, member of the Order of Canada, Knight of the National Order of Quebec and he received honourary Doctorates from the University of Chicago, McGill University and Queen's University.
