Ginette Bellavance has studied with Serge Garant, André Prévost, Jean Papineau-Couture and Alcides Lanza. She obtained a masters in electro-acoustics at McGill University and has completed her doctoral studies at the University of Montreal. She has composed for the major theater companies in Montreal, for the National Arts Centre in Ottawa as well as the music for numerous Canadian films, radio and television programs. She has been host to several radio and television programs concerned with classical and contemporary music. In 1982 the Canadian Music Council awarded her the trophee for the best radio program, Musique d’ailleurs (Music from other places). Ginette Bellavance has received numerous grants from the Quebec Culture Ministry and the Canadian Arts Council. Her Cantate d’un 6 Décembre, for 32 women voices, two soloists and two pianos, premiered in 1977, is scheduled to be recorded by Radio-Canada.
