Gérard Abiton was twenty years old when he began his career as a concert artist. USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Germany, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Danmark, Spain, Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, France… he gives recitals and concerts as a soloist and with orchestra. He has played with the Orchestre Symphonique du Rhin, National Symphonique Orchestra of Mexico, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Sinfonia of Manchester, Collegium Musicum of Bale, National Symphonique Orchestra of Cuba… He is one of the rare guitarist who has played Aranjuez concerto in the town itself of Aranjuez. In 2005, the english Classical Guitar Magazine considers him as “the leading french guitarist”. Gérard Abiton has got clear ideas about his aesthetics and techniques choices. One of his objectives is to increase the polyphonic aspect of his instrument while inventing appropriate techniques. If he confesses to a certain propensity for the composers of the beginning of the 20th century, he is also attracted by the contemporary music and most important guitar pièces of the repertory. He has done several recordings such as the Complete guitar works of Manuel Ponce, Suites et Variations (Bach, Martin, Iglesia), Con sentimiento Popular (Turina, Torroba, Mompu), Por los campos de Espana (Joaquin Rodrigo) which have been acclaimed and awarded prizes. His own Scarlatti’s transcriptions will be the next forthcoming record. Gérard Abiton is a performer and a teacher too. He teaches at the CRR of Paris and the CND of Orléans, regularly gives master classes all over the world and belongs to the panel of judges for different national and international competitions.
