Mark Small is a composer, performer, and music journalist from the Boston area. He has composed and arranged music for solo guitar, chamber ensemble, chorus, and orchestra. He has performed throughout the country and appeared on three international TV and radio broadcasts with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. His music is featured on six CDs with the Small-Torres Guitar Duo, one with the Small-Clemente Duo, and on an album of his solo guitar works. The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet commissioned him to arrange Pat Metheny’s “Letter from Home,” which appeared on their 2005 Grammy-winning album Guitar Heroes.
Small attended Berklee College of Music and holds degrees classical guitar performance from New England Conservatory of Music and California State University. His writings have covered an array of musicians and music-related topics. In addition to serving as the managing editor of Berklee today magazine for 26 years, he has penned numerous articles for Classical Guitar, Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, DownBeat, and other publications.
