Jason Waldron is one of Australia’s most prominent classical guitarists. His initial studies in Adelaide with John Della-Torre were followed by advanced tuition with Dr. Peter Calvo at the Sydney Spanish Guitar Center. He also participated in master classes with Alirio Diaz, John Duarte, Oscar Caceres, Turibio Santos and John Williams. A successful recital in London’s famed Wigmore Hall was followed by concerts in Australia, and the U.S.A. including the American premiere of the Guillermo Flores Mendez Guitar Concerto with members of the Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra during the inaugural Santa Fe Guitar Festival. An avid interest in the music of the great Paraguayan guitarist/composer Agustin Barrios led to his transcribing several pieces from original Barrios recordings, later published and subsequently recorded by John Williams. Jason continues to publish guitar music including two method books and several volumes of arrangements of popular classical music. He has also recorded an album of popular music for EMI and a classical album for Universal/ ABC Classics. Jason’s contribution to the development of the classical guitar in Australia has been considerable, particularly in the area of teaching, having taught privately and in institutions throughout Australia and overseas.
